MEMORIAL  FUND

At the 2006 business meeting in Norfolk, VA, the membership voted to erect a memorial dedicated to the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and all who served aboard. On 18 May 2007 the 1st phase of this Memorial was dedicated at a special service at Naval Station Mayport.

The second phase of this memorial project (which included the ship's bell, quarterdeck plaques and commissioning plaque) is now complete and was dedicated in May of 2009. (Pictures of the memorial can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page). We thank all of you who have made this project a huge success. This is our legacy to future generations and we have created something of an exceptional nature. The memorial fund, established by our association , is still accepting donations for the MEMORIAL MAINTENANCE FUND. This fund is to ensure that the memorial is maintained in perpetuity.  Please send your checks made payable to the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt Reunion, Inc to the Treasurer:                                                                         Indicate that the funds are for the memorial maintenance fund.

The base commander issued an open invitation to all FDR crew members to visit the memorial, with or without base privileges. To do so, please contact Bill Austin in the Public Affairs Office at 904-270-5226 ext. 1013. He will arrange to get you cleared onto the base; however, please be sure to give him 24 hours notice. Do not try to go without calling ahead to Mr. Austin.
